Wine Buy The Case > Wines you really should try

We've put together a small list of wines that we feel are well worth a look at. They do cover a range of price points, but all are incredible value for money.

We hope you enjoy them.

Balfour Brut Rose 2004 Balfour Brut Rose 2004

"Fresh red fruits on a yeasty backbone. Elegant and classy." Imbibe Magazine

Price:  £29.96 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Felton Road Pinot Noir 2005 Felton Road Pinot Noir 2005

Very small quantity

The most complex nose we have seen to date: a veritable spice cupboard, layered with dark bramble and hints of fruit leaves.

The palate is an extraordinary combination of luscious, brambly fruit: very rich and mouthfilling, with copious fine tannin, while a second battery of flavours echoes through the structure of the palate: coffee, chocolate, and baking spices.

The wine finishes with a tingling juiciness robed in silk.

Price:  £19.98 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Central Otago - Hawksburn Pinot Noir 2005 Central Otago - Hawksburn Pinot Noir 2005
Single Bottle Price

Hawksburn Pinot Noir is made by Matt Douglas & Matt Dicey on the vineyards around Matt D's house in Central Otago. A boutique wine in every sense, Matt has just 1.2ha of Pinot Noir and the wine is hand crafted to let the fruit shine.

"A fabulous, boutique Pinot Noir from Central Otago - Just 780 bottles were hand-crafted in this, the first, vintage but in this case, small is defintely beautiful. Ripe, rounded strawberry and cherry fruit with soft, elegant tannins and fresh acidity. Subtle spice and chocolaty richness add complexity on the long finish."

These guys may only be 300 yards from Felton Road! but their stunning wine offers miles better value.

Price:  £18.79 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Chateau La Fleur-Petrus 1993 Chateau La Fleur-Petrus 1993

Limited Quantity of this very Serious wine.

Price:  £46.94 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Thesaurum Corvina/Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 Thesaurum Corvina/Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

The name means 'treasure' and this trove was discovered in a cellar in Soave on a recent buying trip to the Veneto. As soon as the buyer had tried it, he bought the whole production on the spot. It's a sensational value red, which features Corvina and Cabernet Sauvignon as its prinicipal componants.

Price:  £6.40 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Brian Croser Brut 2004 Brian Croser Brut 2004

The softer side of Croser: a creamy, delicate fizz with apple, pear and redcurrant fruit and some richer brioche notes on the finish.

Press Quote "Nervy, linear, tight and brooding, this is S&M fizz for those of you who like a bit of pain before dinner. Totally cleansing and superbly balanced."
Matthew Jukes,Top 100 Australian Wines

Price:  £15.73 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Leabrook Estate - Pinot Gris 2006 Leabrook Estate - Pinot Gris 2006

This wine is made in a style with intermediate palate weight between the more savoury Sauvignon Blanc and the richer fuller bodied Chardonnay. The wine has excellent cleansing acidity balancing the subtle fruit flavours of apples and pears.

The intense fruit flavours give a sense of sweetness that compliments many styles of cuisine. This latest release follows the style and tradition of the 04 Vintage that was highly acclaimed by Jancis Robinson and awarded 4½ stars by Halliday.

Price:  £14.99 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Dead Arm Shiraz 2002 37.5cl Dead Arm Shiraz 2002 37.5cl

The 2002 The Dead Arm Shiraz was a challenge to effectively analyze. After the magnificent 2001, it comes across as lighter-styled, more elegant, but also closed and restrained. Several hours of aeration were beneficial, but this cuvee seems to be playing it close to the vest. However, there is power beneath the tannic structure.
It has noble breeding, but appears to be totally shut down at present.

Price:  £12.93 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz/Viognier 2005 d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz/Viognier 2005

Upon release, the "Laughing Magpie" has a vivid, dark purple colour. The Viognier adds fragrant flower and perfume aromas, and flavours of nectarines, apricots, ginger and herbs, serving to enhance the very ripe flavour spectrum of the Shiraz, which primarily exhibits blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry. With a considerable portion of this wine being naturally fermented (no yeast added), the wine reveals exotic aromas of roast meat, salami, game, earth and lipstick. These characters prevail on the palate with a smooth glycerol impact following through to the mid-palate, with the exotic characters growing and combining with tannins and a long complex finish. Structurally, the 2003 "Laughing Magpie" is as full-bodied as the 2002 release with a more complex, rich mouth feel, ending with a beautifully balanced array of fine, rich tannins. The ageability of this wine, we think, is very long due to the massive fragrant fruit, the lively intense flavours and the abundance of white wine tannins in the late spectrum.

Price:  £11.57 (Including: VAT at 17.5%)

Nicolis - Recioto della Valpolicella Classico 2003 50cl Nicolis - Recioto della Valpolicella Classico 2003 50cl

Deep garnet red colour. Intense perfume on the nose, delicate with floral sensations of violets, irises, wild roses, and vanilla. Full creamy sweet flavour, velvety, warm, rich in character and freshness.

Bisol Jeio Prosecco Brut NV Bisol Jeio Prosecco Brut NV

This wine is obtained from selected grapes grown on the hills around Valdobbiadene at an average altitude of 250 meters (820 ft.). The vineyards yield a Prosecco (they also contain Verdiso and Pinot Bianco in a ratio of about 10%) that is particularly rich in malic acid. Cold maceration, with the skins in contact overnight with the must at a low temperature, assures remarkable extraction of varietal aromas that exalt the bouquet, as well as fruity and sapid flavors.
