"Spy Valley" is owned by Johnson Estate Limited, formerly the largest Marlborough suppliers of grapes to Corbans. Johnson is a family run company, with 320 acres of vineyard in the Waihopai Valley in the Marlborough region. The area is known locally as Spy Valley, because of the satellite monitoring station there. Winemaking is at Spy's state of the art new winery, led by Ant MacKenzie. Regions/Vineyards Situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka River, eight varieties of grapes over 320 acres producing premium quality fruit for Spy Valley wines. The fertile, free draining stony soils result from successive flood events and glacial outwash deposits over the previous 10,000 years. Marlborough enjoys more sunshine hours than any other region of New Zealand, coupled with young, rich land, yielding perfect grape growing conditions.
