Southbank Estate Hawkes Bay Syrah 2002 Southbank Estate Hawkes Bay Syrah 2002

Contrary to a commonly held perception, Syrah performs best under moderately warm climatic conditions rather than extremely hot conditions. As such it is highly suited to the Hawkes Bay climate. The resulting wines tend to be highly aromatic and flavorsome combining elements of blueberry, blackberry and ground white pepper. These flavours are given lift and sweetness from aging the wine in small French and American barriques. The firm tannin structure enhances the enjoyment of this wine by prolonging the palate length while making it the perfect accompaniment to strongly flavoured, rich, red meat dishes.
