Philip Togni is a former student of Emile Peynaud at the University of Bordeaux and one of the very top names in Californian Cabernet. At a recent tasting in Brussels the most noted professional panel in the country twice ranked the Togni 1990 Cabernet above eleven other Bordeaux and California Cabernets of 1990 including Latour, Margaux, Haut-Brion and Mouton. Most of the tiny 2000 case annual production is sold to a mailing list on a first-come basis, but we have managed to secure a small allocation of both the top Cabernet and the Tanbark Hill which is estate-bottled from young vines.
