Petaluma Coonawarra 2004 Petaluma Coonawarra 2004

A sumptuous wine of great breadth and depth. It abounds with black/dark fruits, complemented by liquorice, spice and earthy tones.

Press Quote "Dusty ripe aromas. No Oz twang, very appetising dry tannins on the finish. Good integrity of flavours. Dry wine – very valid style though it definitely needs food! Hot, early year obviously brought all varieties to full ripeness but no suggestion of overripeness. This 50:50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot yielded just 4 tonnes per hectare. 14% alcohol from the Evans and Sharefarmers vineyards. Dense and minerally, thick and dry."

Central Otago - Hawksburn Pinot Noir 2005 Central Otago - Hawksburn Pinot Noir 2005
Single Bottle Price

Hawksburn Pinot Noir is made by Matt Douglas & Matt Dicey on the vineyards around Matt D's house in Central Otago. A boutique wine in every sense, Matt has just 1.2ha of Pinot Noir and the wine is hand crafted to let the fruit shine.

"A fabulous, boutique Pinot Noir from Central Otago - Just 780 bottles were hand-crafted in this, the first, vintage but in this case, small is defintely beautiful. Ripe, rounded strawberry and cherry fruit with soft, elegant tannins and fresh acidity. Subtle spice and chocolaty richness add complexity on the long finish."

These guys may only be 300 yards from Felton Road! but their stunning wine offers miles better value.

Rose des Tourelles Bordeaux Rose 2006 Rose des Tourelles Bordeaux Rose 2006

Single Bottle Price - Jancis Robinson Wine of the Week - July 17th.

"Here at last is friendly 2006 pricing from Pauillac and a clever, well, I suppose the word is product, not one usually applied to wines made in top classed growth properties in Bordeaux.

This attractively packaged wine, the label just as ornate as its stablemate Pichon Longueville (Baron), all turrets and engraved detail, is hardly a rosé at all but a very light strawberry red. It could surely qualify as that old Bordeaux hue clairet. And it is very definitely made for drinking with food, being pretty substantial in terms of body, definitely reminiscent of red bordeaux, but it should be drunk cool (not icy)." Jancis Robinson

Mad Fish Unaoked Chardonnay 2004 Mad Fish Unaoked Chardonnay 2004

The MadFish Chardonnay is a modern approach to the oaked Chardonnay style, making use of subtle oak flavour that will not overpower the fine fruit structure of this wine. The choice of regions allows the mingling of the delicious pear and nectarine flavour of Margaret River to be melded with the fine and elegant citrus flavours of the Great Southern. The oak contributes a wonderful cashew and biscuity character to the wine. On initial tasting this wine gives a delightful eruption of pear and citrus with sweet textural oak and a savoury mid palate leading to a wonderfully long and clean grapefruit finish of fine tight acid.

This wine is in the process of moving to 2005

d'Arenberg Cadenzia 2005 d'Arenberg Cadenzia 2005

This wine is dominated by an amazing fragrance of red berries; spice, cherries and a developing mix of characters such as lavender, prunes, blueberries and dried herb as the wine opens up. It’s a medium to full bodied wine with a beautifully integrated palate with excellent depth and concentration of fruit with an almost silky tannin structure balanced by fine acidity. The thickness of the Shiraz in the palate and length of flavour beautifully balances the Grenache and Mourvèdre as it dominates with mulberry and dark spiced fruit and licorice characters while the Mourvedre characters of iodine and dried herb completes the lingering flavours on the finish. Upon release this wine is in total balance and showcases the wonderful attributes of d’Arenberg Grenache.

Dead Arm Shiraz 2002 37.5cl Dead Arm Shiraz 2002 37.5cl

The 2002 The Dead Arm Shiraz was a challenge to effectively analyze. After the magnificent 2001, it comes across as lighter-styled, more elegant, but also closed and restrained. Several hours of aeration were beneficial, but this cuvee seems to be playing it close to the vest. However, there is power beneath the tannic structure.
It has noble breeding, but appears to be totally shut down at present.

Anticipated maturity: 2009 - 2020." 92+ points RP
