Morton Estate is a strongly established, quality wine company. Famous in particular for Chardonnays. The 1995 Black Label Hawkes Bay Chardonnay won the "Best Chardonnay in the World" Trophy in the London International Wine Challenge in 1997. Following this the 96 and 98 vintages have consistently featured at these competitions. However, in the last couple of years Morton Estate has made a name for itself with magnificent Sauvignon Blancs, with the 2002 Stone Creek Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc winning the Trophy for "Best Sauvignon Blanc in the World" at the London International Wine Challenge 2003. In the same year our Morton Brut Methode Traditionelle won the "Sparkling Trophy" at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards. Morton Estate is clearly producing outstanding whites, although the reds are also of unique high quality: Pinot Noir, Syrah and Merlot Cabernet. The 1998 Black Label Merlot Cabernet is one such highly acclaimed red, winning Gold at the "International Wine & Spirit Competition" in 2002 and 2001. It is no wonder that in 2002 Morton Estate won the "New Zealand Wine Producer of the Year "trophy from the same London competition.

	Colefield Sauvignon Blanc, Morton Estate 2003 The Colefield vineyard supplies the best Sauvignon Blanc fruit from the Hawkes Bay region.This is due to the varied diurnal temperatures, warm days and cool nights experienced by the vineyard and the Sylvos canopy structure, which allows for varied phenological ripeness in the two fruit zones. The Colefield Sauvignon Blanc gives gooseberry and limes on the nose with subtle vanilla undertones due to the short term oak maturation during fermentation until first rack.
