Laroche may now have wineries and vineyards all around the world but Chablis remains very much its home base. The wines, all bottled under screwcap from Grand Cru down to the Petit Chablis, are benchmarks for the region with minerality, freshness and concentration of fruit the hallmarks. Laroche owns 100ha of Chablis vineyards, which include a staggering 30ha of Premier Cru vines (there are 10ha of the wonderful Vaudevey vineyard alone) and 6ha of Grand Cru. Wine writer Andrew Jefford calls Laroche the benchmark for Blanchots Grand Cru, with the flagship Reserve de l'Obedience sourced from two tiny plots of old vines in this vineyard and lavished with 100% barrel fermentation and no shortage of new oak.
