Laroche's outpost in South Africa, L'Avenir is one of the most celebrated estates in the Cape. Located in the Stellenbosch valley, just 15km as the crow flies from the coast, the maritime influence helps cool the vines and produce elegant, structured wines. The winemaking is in the hands of local boy Tinus Els who was delighted to give up the haul of air miles he had accumulated as a flying winemaker to return to the Cape full time. As at all the Laroche wineries worldwide, there is an emphasis on purity of fruit and crisp, minerally flavours and Tinus has added an extra level of freshness to the wines since taking over.

	l'Avenir Sauvignon Blanc 2005 6x75cl Colour: Bright yellow with hues of green. Nose: Complex orange zest and guava with a hint of green pepper. Palate:Refreshing citrus and well balanced acidity. Nose: Precice and intense with ripe pinapple characters. Palate: Full and rich with complex roundness. Sweet canned pineapple and fresh melon flavour. Nose: Plum and cherry, intense fruit aroma. Palate: Ripe tannin structure, well-balanced with lingering cherry and mocha. Ripe berry fruit with cassis, tones of cedar wood with intense fruitcake, sweet tobacco and sweet spice. 	L'Avenir Grand Vin Pinotage Laroche 2004 6x75cl It's Pinotage but not as you know it. Rich and concentrated with juicy tannins, spicy brambly fruit and a seam of toasty vanilla running down the palate. "Michel Laroche of Chablis now owns L'Avenir estate in Stellenbosch. This is L'Avenir's top expression of the Pinotage grape, and it is deeper, darker, with a more cedary and leathery sense of structure and depth than their basic bottling. The palate has a layering of French oak that is somewhat impenetrable at present, but the depth and richness of fruit is certainly there, and this is packed with a taut, quite muscular presence, supple tannic framework and lots of plushness and spice.
