Wine Buy The Case > New Zealand  > Coopers Creek

Established in 1980 by Andrew and Cynthia Hendry, in Huapai, West Auckland, Coopers Creek is one of New Zealand's top award winning wineries, renowned for producing outstanding cool climate styles. Simon Nunns is Coopers Creek's skilled young winemaker and was the inaugural winner of the Jason Winter Memorial Award when graduating with distinction in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University in Canterbury. All winemaking and bottling is carried out at the West Auckland winery, and production is now around 70,000 cases. Coopers Creek's policy is to plant varietals in the regions to which they are best suited in order to produce the best possible wines. Fruit for Coopers Creek wines is therefore sourced from company and contract vineyards in New Zealand's key winegrowing regions. 60% of Coopers Creek wines are exported and in recognition of this the winery was awarded the Excellence in Exporting Award by the New Zealand Trade Development Board in 1997.

Coopers Creek Unoaked Gisborne Chardonnay 2004 12x75cl Coopers Creek Unoaked Gisborne Chardonnay 2004 12x75cl

Pale, green-gold in the glass. Large tears coat the glass, indicating a wine of considerable extract and body. The nose exhibits ripe Gisborne Chardonnay aromas of peaches and melon, underpinned by creamy and butterscotch notes from the malolactic fermentation. Unlike many Unoaked Chardonnays, this is a rich and textured wine. There is a lovely balance between the fruit sweetness and the acid, and the mid palate has plenty of weight. The finish is long, with peachy and creamy flavours. Food Matches are fish, seafood, poultry and pork.

Coopers Creek Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2004 12x75cl Coopers Creek Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2004 12x75cl

This wine is water white in its youth, but over time will develop green and straw tints. There is no mistaking where this wine is from. The aroma profile is typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. There are hints of gooseberry, passion fruit, citrus, and nectarine. This wine is weighty for a Sauvignon Blanc and shows a lovely balance between fruit sweetness and acidity. As always the palate is fresh and clean and the finish crisp. Young Sauvignon Blanc is a very refreshing aperitif. It is also a great accompaniment to seafood dishes, especially mussels, oysters and squid.

Coopers Creek Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2003 12x75cl Coopers Creek Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2003 12x75cl

Available September 2006

Only made in the finest of years. Two parcels of exceptional quality fruit were selected for this wine. Low cropping vines in the Anderson Vineyard up the Brancott Valley provided fruit with great richness and texture. This was partnered with first crop Sauvignon from the Praine Vineyard down on the Wairau Plains. This fruit was intense and vibrant. This wine is almost water white in the glass. Slight green hints are apparent which will develop to straw tones over time. Gooseberry, passion fruit and nectarine aromas on the nose. Extremely textured on the palate for a Sauvignon Blanc with masses of fruit sweetness in the mouth along with some real weight in the mid palate and on the finish. Very approachable on its own or perfect with fish and other seafood.

Coopers Creek Swamp Reserve Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2002 12x75cl Coopers Creek Swamp Reserve Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2002 12x75cl
Coopers Creek Swamp Reserve Hawkes Bay Chardonnay

This wine is pale straw in its youth, but with age will begin to show light gold tints. Sweet lemons, grapefruit and melon mingled with creamy and nutty notes from the extended lees contact. This is all held together by subtle French oak. A rich and weighty wine. Loads of sweet fruit on the mid palate with a ‘cream and hazelnut’ finish. Full flavoured chardonnays are great food wines, especially richly flavoured meat dishes such as lamb, pork and duck, and seafood - crayfish, salmon and trout. Accompanying sauces could include citrus, apple, nuts, mushrooms and aromatic herbs.

Coopers Creek Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2002 12x75cl Coopers Creek Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2002 12x75cl

Deep rich purple/black with blood red/purple rim. Ripe, lifted cassis nose underlain with toasty, creamy oak. Full bodied with a firm but rounded tannic structure. Sweet berry fruit dominates the finish, especially cassis and blackberries, with just a hint of dark plums. Rounded tannins and ripe berry flavours make this wine a great accompaniment to many meat dishes such as lamb, venison, beef and game. Many rich sauces go well with this wine, as will roast garlic and vegetables.
