The Catena family has been involved in winemaking for over a century, having immigrated to Mendoza from the Italian wine growing province of the Marche. Having planted their first vineyards in 1902, the family has become one of the largest and most successful producers in Argentina. Their philosophy has been always that a great wine originates in the vineyard. Their commitment to quality is paramount and their wines are the result of the combined efforts of a top quality team headed up by two of Argentina's most respected and talented wine experts, vineyard director Alejandro Sejanovich and winemaker José Galante. Under the guidance of Dr Nicolas Catena, the company's painstaking research into all aspects of vineyard selection and grape growing, complemented by their investment in state-of-the-art technology, has made them true pioneers of the Argentinean wine industry.

Catena Alta Malbec 2002 Catena Alta Malbec 2002

Decanter magazine (Feb. 2005) rates the 2002 as “Outstanding. The vintage that put Argentinian Malbec on the map.”

Press Quote "By the year 2015, the greatness of Argentinean wines made from the Malbec grape will be understood as a given. This French varietal, which failed so miserably on its home soil in Bordeaux, has reached startling heights of quality in Argentina. Both inexpensive, delicious Malbecs and majestic, profoundly complex ones from high-elevation vineyards are already being produced, and by 2015 this long-ignored grape's place in the pantheon of noble wines will be guaranteed."
